Junior tennis: player zones for Covid

Ōtaki Sports Club is a non mandated vaccine club and as such is restricted, under the current red traffic light setting, to 25 people on site per sport.

Junior interclub teams often play with a larger number of spectators than other teams due to parents accompanying their children. This can regularly push numbers over 25, especially at Hot Shots tennis on Sunday mornings.

Tennis Central recommends not bringing spectators to junior interclub events at non-mandated venues.

To help give clarity and keep people safe when attending junior tennis at Ōtaki Sports Club in 2022, we have the following zones in place.

Player and spectator zones for junior interclub matches 2022

  • Blue zone (inside the blue box): the players, the team manager and one other support adult (per team).
  • Red zone (outside the red lines): all spectators. In other words, all people who are not listed in the blue zone list.

Children may use the club’s indoor toilets during their event. There is no other sport organised at ŌSC when junior interclub is on and club facilities are rarely used during this time by others. In the event that a child passes a person in, or on the way to, the bathroom, a two metre separation is to be strictly observed.

Update: 03/02/22

Tennis Central advises that it is now mandatory for face masks to be worn at all times at tennis clubs / centres (except when actually playing), both indoors and outdoors.

Please note that umpires are not considered to be playing and any umpire would be expected to wear a face mask.

Please note: the red zone is a public reserve. Ōtaki Sports Club premises consists of the building and the tennis courts.

  1. Hi Adam
Could you please confirm restrictions are up to 25 people in the club total, or per sport?

How will this work with squash players playing on inter club days or tennis training days?

    Thanks Jennie

    1. Hi Jennie, per sport is our understanding of the government regulations. Squash player interaction – unaware of any on training days, children don’t have key access to the building. Interclub days — under discussion, your input very welcome .
