An Ōtaki crew went to Wellington on Saturday night for the Tennis Central silent disco and came home with the 2025 Club of the Year award and a whopping big trophy!!Big congrats, too, to Newlands-Paparangi Tennis Club who are joint winners of this year's award with Ōtaki Sports Club.And, many thanks to all our club volunteers, players and whānau for your enthusiasm in supporting our kaupapa of growing and developing tennis, tennis players and our club.We'll look forward to continuing our mahi through the winter and into the new season in spring. 😀🎾🎾And a big shout-out to Tennis Central Region (Flo, Mel, Tim, Sandra) for your always-awesome support for our club. ... And the tennis club champs are officially over ... with the rain-delayed men's doubles final from Sunday completed tonight. 🤩🎾Callan Nikora and Pātaka Moore are now four-time men's doubles champions (2022-2025) after beating Tama Te Whata and Tom Beauchamp this evening 6-4 3-6 10-3.Exciting tennis, and a great match to round out the 2025 club champs. 🥳🙂🎾 ... Our biggest (and best yet!) tennis club champs ended on the weekend with two days of exciting finals matches. Two new senior champions were crowned, both beating the defending champions to take the titles. Tama Te Whata beat 2024 men’s singles champion Callan Nikora 2-6, 6-4, 12-10 in an intense match that could have gone either way.In women’s singles, Hannah Grimmett beat Jackie Gould 6-4, 6-3. The match was a repeat of the 2024 final, but with Jackie the victor last year.Hannah and Jackie combined to win the women’s doubles for a second year running, beating Leonie Campbell and Marcia Ohlson.Callan Nikora and Emma Whiterod won the mixed doubles, beating Leonie Campbell and Craig Eves in a repeat of last year’s final, and are now champions for three years straight.The men’s doubles final saw defending champions Callan Nikora and Pātaka Moore take on Tama Te Whata and Tom Beauchamp. The match was rained off and will be completed later this week.We also had an exciting programme of plate and consolation finals.
