Our power-hungry story
We’re a thriving and highly-active, three-sport club — tennis, squash, and football — with around 340 members. We proudly serve Ōtaki, Te Horo and surrounding areas.
Our club plays a vital role in our community, and we offer more than just sport. We provide a safe, inclusive space for skills development, healthy lifestyles, youth engagement and community cohesion.
But with all our activities comes a core challenge: rising and often massive power bills.
Lighting our squash and tennis courts and football fields, and powering our general facilities, is fast becoming a big strain on our restricted income.
Mid-winter last year, our monthly electricity bills hit a peak of more than $770 — and as we head into this winter, they are climbing again.
We work hard to monitor and reduce power use, but our growing membership and the need for fully-functioning facilities make cutting back difficult, and hinder our ability to grow and serve our community.
