The nomination and award were for tennis, for our outstanding impact on the community and great achievement in that sport. The football season is underway, and Ōtaki Purutaitama began its 2024 Division 1 season with a 6-1 win over Kāpiti Coast United Sopranos at Haruātai Park on Saturday.Te Hau Cook scored three goals and Travis Robertson also scored three goals.In Division 2, the Ōtaki Puru Master Blasters also kicked off in style with a 4-2 win on Saturday, also at home, against Waikanae Hawks. ... What an epic Sunday! A beautiful day and beautiful Ōtaki Sports Club people 🤩 celebrating tennis at the senior club champs finals afternoon.First up yesterday, Jackie Gould and Hannah Grimmett took out the women's doubles title against Leonie Campbell and Jodie Lawson in a fantastic display of quality tennis from both teams.Next up the men's doubles, and the winners from the past two years Callan Nikora and Pātaka Moore took out the title to make it three in a row in a tight three-setter against Tom Caines and Craig Eves.Jackie and Hannah were on court again for the women's singles final with Jackie taking the title -- after a tight first set Jackie pulled away in the second to become a double champion, following her earlier doubles win.In the last main draw final of the afternoon, Callan Nikora and Emma Whiterod took home the Whiterod Whānau trophy for mixed doubles with a straight sets win over Craig Eves and Leonie Campbell.Congrats also to Terri Grimmett beating Jessica Wilkinson in the women's singles plate final; and to Isaac Cant and Travis Robertson beating Andrew Martin and Anthony Bazalo in the men's doubles plate final.Meredith Evans and Mike Lean won the mixed doubles plate by default. Terri Grimmett and Jo Nikora won the women's doubles plate by default. The first of our senior tennis club champs finals was held today with Callan Nikora and Tom Caines battling it out for the 2024 men's singles title.Callan took the match 6-4, 6-0 with some big serving and ground strokes from both players, and an exciting match for the spectators.Tomorrow starting at 12.15pm, we have women's doubles, followed by men's doubles, then women's singles and finally mixed doubles.The plate women's singles and plate men's doubles will also be played.Come on down tomorrow and enjoy an exciting afternoon of tennis. 😀🎾😀🎾 ...
